Self-assessment Student Participation

Dear Professor Blackstone, 

 I believe that I deserve "Excellent" for my student participation as I tick most of the requirements for it. I am always punctual, I participate enthusiastically in all classes and group activities, I take initiative to get the group discussion going (group leader) and I am an active listener. I show respect the utmost respect in all my interactions, and I have 100% attendance.

Interpretation of quote

“While all engineers should have good communication skills, global engineers face additional challenges, making effective communication an imperative.” Debra Kraft, Careers Content Writer, Demand Media (2016) My interpretation of this quote is that for efficient and effective work to be done, communication is key. Especially in a globalised world, where people from all walks of life with different language and culture can participate in a project, the ability to communicate well is all the more important.  One example of this is when working with someone from China who can only speak in Chinese as someone who can only speak and write English. People in their home county will be more used to using their country's own system and language.  Even with programmes like google translate to assist in conveying meaning, the result of the translation will never as good as being able to understand the other person directly.
